ee logo 2014Expansion of EE’s 4G coverage across the UK continues to accelerate, with 12 towns becoming the latest to gain access to the superfast network.

Since its introduction in October 2013, when London, Manchester and Birmingham were amongst the first cities in the UK to receive the service, 4G has been rolled out to a further 175 towns and cities. On 28th March a further 12 towns were added to the ever-growing list, bringing the total to 187. The latest to go online are Livingstone in Scotland; Pontypool and Bridgend in Wales; Newtownabbey, Coleraine and Antrim in Northern Ireland; and the English towns of Tamworth, Burnley, Leigh, Nuneaton, Macclesfield and Sittingbourne.

In addition to expanding the service to urban areas and major conurbations, EE has taken the opportunity to improve coverage in commuter corridors linking Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Swansea.

Speaking at the launch, Olaf Swantee, EE’s CEO, said: “Our 4G roll-out is continuing at an industry-leading pace, reaching more and more people in places right across the UK. We’re connecting major towns to make sure that consumers, commuters and businesses have 4G where they live and where they work. As well as expanding our 4G network into new areas, our teams are switching on new 4G sites in our existing 4G cities and towns to make the EE network experience even better.”

The final week of March was a busy one for EE, as it also introduced its first own-brand smartphone. The EE Kestrel is supplied free on consumer plans from £13.99 per month and costs £99 on PAYG.
