EE switches on its 250th town
EE has announced that the 250th town in its 4G roll-out has now been switched on, with its network now available in Cornwall.
The Cornish town of Saltash has been connected and switched on to 4G, which makes Cornwall the 22nd region of the UK to be given access to 4G services. At the same time 4G services have been added to a further 20 towns throughout the UK, including Sutton in Ashfield, Gravesend, Cheshunt, Bishop’s Stortford, Ormskirk, Banbridge, Strabane and Armagh City. The roll-out is being carried out in stages and EE was the first company to be given permission to provide 4G for customers in the UK.
These latest additions mean that since EE launched its 4G service in October 2012, 250 towns and cities have been connected; 2,500 smaller towns and villages have also been connected, which means that almost three-quarters of the population of the UK now has access to these services. The project is still ongoing to ensure that coverage will reach as many people as possible.
The CEO of EE, Olaf Swantee, has stated that this 250th town is a landmark in the project to ensure that everyone has access to superfast mobile broadband. The advantages of 4G are well known for both businesses and residential customers, and the company is continuing to invest heavily in the regions that have been unable to obtain good fixed line or mobile coverage to date.
