Apple has announced the availability of several new products from 24 March, including a red-coloured iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as well as a less expensive 9.7-inch iPad.

Apple is releasing the special-edition models of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in partnership with the charity (RED), which provides assistance to programmes combatting HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. The red aluminium cases recognise Apple’s ten-year association with the charity. To date, Apple’s partnership with (RED) has generated over £104m for the charity.

Retail prices for the special-edition iPhones start at £699, with both 128GB and 256GB models available.

When announcing the latest iPhones, Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said: “Since we began working with (RED) ten years ago, our customers have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through the purchase of our products, from the original iPod nano (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s lineup of Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The introduction of this special-edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest (PRODUCT)RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can’t wait to get it into customers’ hands.”

The retail cost for the more affordable 9.7-inch iPad starts at £339, a significant price reduction from the £549 retail cost for the iPad Pro. The new iPad features a retina display and a split-screen mode. It is slightly heavier and thicker than current iPad models.
