Samsung has announced that it will release the Galaxy S9, its newest flagship smartphone, on Friday 16th March. Pre-orders opened on 1st March.

Samsung’s latest smartphone comes on the heels of its very successful Galaxy S8. The company hopes that the Galaxy S9 will set the standard for Android smartphones for the coming year.

The Galaxy S9 features the familiar edge-to-edge display, a very powerful camera, AR Emoji and the ability to shoot video in extreme slow motion. Samsung said that the Galaxy S9 will “reinvent the camera” with its high-spec technology.

The retail price of the Galaxy S9 will be £739, and the larger Galaxy S9+ will retail at £869. These prices are almost £50 more than the comparable models of Samsung’s current flagship smartphone. The S9 features a 5.8-inch display, while the S9+ has a 6.2-inch display.

The Galaxy S9 should compete strongly with Apple’s iPhone X, as it is slightly less expensive but still offers a plethora of premium specifications.

Samsung’s new smartphone looks very much like the Galaxy S8 but has a slightly longer display and a slightly thinner body. Both the S9 and the S9+ have a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. The S9 features a single-lens camera, while the S9+ has a dual-lens camera.

The Galaxy S9 will eventually be available in four colours, but only Coral Blue, Lilac Purple and Midnight Black will be available for the phone’s launch in the UK.
