Samsung has released its new flagship smartphone for 2018, the Galaxy S9, to compete with Apple’s iPhone X, released at the end of 2017. Here is a brief comparison between the two:

At £739, the Galaxy S9 is considerably less expensive than the iPhone X, which retails for £999.

The size of Samsung’s new phone is unchanged. Just like the S8, the S9 features a 5.8-inch display. The iPhone X also features a 5.8-inch display, which is an increase from the iPhone 8’s 4.7-inch display.

For the S9, Samsung has moved the location of the fingerprint sensor to make it less likely that users will smudge the camera’s lens. The iPhone X does not feature a fingerprint sensor.

The iPhone X weighs 11 grams more than the S9.

The S9 has a jack for headphones, while the iPhone X does not.

Like the iPhone X, the S9 offers the ability to unlock the phone using a facial recognition system. However, Apple’s system functions better, and Samsung does not allow its system for use with Samsung Pay.

The S9 is the premier Android-based smartphone for the latest augmented reality (AR) capabilities. Both the S9 and the iPhone X let users create animated emojis by using facial expressions. Apple calls its feature Animoji, while Samsung uses the term AR Emoji. Samsung’s animated emojis more closely resemble avatars, as the S9 generates them using photos of the user’s face.

The S9 and the iPhone X both feature a rear camera with 12-megapixel sensors. However, the iPhone X uses a dual-lens system. Both smartphones support optical image stabilisation.
