Samsung is attempting to reverse a decline in smartphone sales with the launch of three new high-end devices – the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra.

The Korean manufacturer unveiled the models late last week as it gets a head start on its main rival Apple with a new range of ‘super-premium’ products.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 builds on the tech used in the company’s first ever folding smartphone, which was released in 2019.

The second iteration is much bigger, with a 6.2-inch external screen and a 7.6-inch main AMOLED display with Ultra Thin Glass.

There is also a Snapdragon 865 CPU, 12GB of RAM memory and 256GB of internal storage.

“With a larger external display you really do get the best of both worlds with regards to being able to use it closed as a traditional phone and then having the benefit of a mini-tablet when unfolded,” analyst Ben Wood said.

Samsung also unveiled the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra devices.

The former will house a 6.7-inch display and the latter a 6.9-inch screen.

The more premium Ultra also gets a faster 120Hz refresh rate screen and better response times with the S Pen.

Samsung hopes that the new launches will kick-start sales after a challenging period.

The company shipped 54.2m units during Q2, which was a 28.9% decline from a year earlier.

Samsung has been hit by the pandemic more than its competitors, including Huawei, which only logged a 5.1% decrease in sales in Q2.
