Millions of customers with the newly formed VodafoneThree will get much faster and reliable 5G and 4G speeds before July.

The two mobile networks officially joined forces last month and now have approximately 29 million customers across the UK, who will now benefit from a better overall network experience.

Vodafone and Three have confirmed they will continue to operate separately.

However, customers will now be able to access a higher-quality shared network.

The brands said: “Within a few months – Vodafone and Three customers will start to automatically use each other’s networks – connecting them to the best coverage available.”

Customers get a speed boost, too.

Around seven million Three customers will see a 20% increase in 4G data speeds before July. The improvement comes from both companies pooling their resources and combining access to spectrum and network assets.

Vodafone customers are also expected to benefit from improved 5G performance in busier areas, such as city centres and sports stadiums.

They won’t have to make changes or upgrades themselves, either.

Existing contracts and plans remain unchanged, and the switch to better coverage and speeds will happen automatically in the background.

VodafoneThree says it will invest £11bn over the next decade to deliver a “best-in-class” 5G network, which will serve 99% of the population.

The brands added: “We have a detailed timetable for upgrading the network over the next eight years – monitored and enforced by our regulator, Ofcom.”

The early boost in speeds is one of the first tangible benefits for customers since the merger was approved a few weeks ago.
