Apple unveils foldable iPhone Duo as iPhone 18 Pro goes on sale
Apple has unveiled its new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max at its “Surprise and Shine” event, but the real star of the show was its first-ever foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo. The new foldable combines a compact outer display with the largest screen yet offered on an iPhone.
The Duo features a 5.4-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR foldable display, all built into a titanium frame. The phone is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip and will be available in two colours, Star White and Night Sky. Prices start at £1,999, with UK pre-orders opening on 16 October ahead of its release on 23 October.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max also run on the A20 Pro chip, with Apple claiming the new GPU is up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. One of the standout upgrades is the new 48MP main camera with variable aperture, allowing the lens to adjust for different lighting conditions and depth of field. Battery life has also been boosted, with the Pro Max capable of up to 45 hours of video playback.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at £1,199 in the UK, while the Pro Max starts at £1,299. Pre-orders opened on 12 September and both models went on sale on 18 September in Silver, Black, Glacier and Burgundy.
Apple also refreshed its wearable and audio line-up. The Apple Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4 feature a new Health Sensing System and Readiness experience, while the AirPods 5 offer improved active noise cancellation, next-generation Adaptive EQ and Live Translation. The new watches and AirPods went on sale on 18 September, with AirPods 5 starting at £119.
